Bio-Kleen's Featured Shootout Racer: Mike Lovergine

Mike has been a fan of Reggie Fountain ever since he can remember, Mike's desire for racing began in 1978 with cars and snowmobiles. In 1986 he got his first boat, an 18ft Switzer. In 2001, he purchased a 42ft Fountain with three 454, 750 hp blower engines that he pushed to 110 mph. He has been going to the Shootout for the past 10 years as a spectator and has always wanted to race. At the 19th annual Shootout, he finally got his chance. In February of this year he had made an offer on a 35 ft. Fountain canopy race boat. Scott Shogren called him to take a test drive in Washington, North Carolina with Wyatt Fountain. Reggie had won many races with the boat and it held the title for the World’s fastest V-bottom without blower motors. The boat had 500 APBA race motors with 525 heads, Sterling headers, Speed master drives, five blade 35 pitch props, oxygen tanks and four communication headsets. Mike was sold.  Mike brought his Fountain and his fiancé JoAnn Buchanan to his first official race event - the Shootout at Lake of the Ozarks (LOTO). On the second day JoAnn decided that she wanted to race with him. At first he thought the speed would scare her and was concerned for her safety, but she pushed him until he gave in. Mike sais, "She kept me calm and focused and even pushed me into going faster!" After that day he did not want to race without her by his side again. The racing pair went on to win their class and their first trophy, with a top speed of 104 mph. The Thunder Race Team plans to enter more races and participate in some Poker Runs.
